Food of Our Ancients at Water’s Edge Hotel
The Chefs Guild of Lanka was invited to a late afternoon’s Book Launch of “Hela Rasābhimānaya” – Sri Lanka’s First Research Based Book of Traditional and Ancient Recipes.
This was launched under the distinguished presence of the Hon. Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
The idea behind it is to take traditional and ancient food of Sri Lanka and share it with the world – aiming at 150 branches of its restaurant starting with Melbourne.
A night of traditional dances and a narration of “Pol Sambol” preparation really reopened the eyes of the nearly 1000 distinguished invitees that attended the event which were interlaced in between the heartfelt and charismatic speeches that were given by the Chief Speakers.
The 300 page Book was presented by the Chairman of Water’s Edge to the Hon. Minister and our Chairman of the Chefs Guild of Lanka – Chef Gerard Mendis.
Amongst the 1000 guests who had attended, there were 300+ Chefs from recognized hotels and resorts from different parts of Sri Lanka – Nuwara Eliyah, Kandy, Down South, Deep Down South, Negombo and the Cultural Triangle who all come to show their support for this Book and its Launch.
The sea of Chefs occupying the seats was truly a sight to behold as they really are the ones who can take this traditional and ancient cuisine into the professional circle and truly make it what the French, Germans and Japanese have done with theres.
All in all, it was a amazing night that has given the Chefs of Sri Lankan Cookery a reinvigoration and we hope that Thuna Paha can take what is Sri Lankan to the World and bring the World back to Sri Lanka.
