The Chefs Guild of Lanka on the 24th of May 2019 held a Press Briefing at the BMICH at 3.00pm for Media, Sponsors and Stall Holders to inform them of the postponing of the Culinary Arts & Food Expo 2019 which was originally intended to be held on the 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th of June 2019 to the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of October due to the recent tragic events that shattered through our country and has left many in turmoil.
As many in the industry was looking forward to the competition which allows all who take part to rise up further in their career anywhere in the world because it is internationally recognized, they find themselves in difficult times.
The Board of Directors – Chairman Chef Gerard Mendis, President Chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe, Event Director Chef Madhawa Weerabaddana and CEO of CDC Events Imran Hassan spoke to all present and guided them through the changes that were going to take place – starting with the Date changes. Then timing changes. Then category changes. Finally a visual presentation of the layout of the event.
The 34 World Association of Chef Society Registered Judges were eager to come in for the event on the original dates. They were still eager to come in even though of all the news that was pouring out of the country. They are eager to show the world their resilience and that of the Chefs and Tourism Industry of Sri Lanka.
We were also told of a new and unique event that would be announced at the next briefing. Can not wait to see what unfolds.
